🌊MARINEWIND 3rd Italian Co-Creation Workshop🌊

🌬️The 3rd Italian workshop was held on June 4th in Marsala, under the label of the “EMD – In My Country 2024” Initiative and was organised by APRE in collaboration with RSE-Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico, the Institute of Marine Engineering of CNR – Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, and of University of York.

💡 The event aimed at discussing the opportunities, challenges and impacts related to the deployment of the Floating Offshore Wind Technologies in the Sicily Region. Starting from the presentation of MARINEWIND results up to date and the WINDMED project, the workshop offered a comprehensive overview of the maritime spatial planning and the existing offshore wind farm projects 7 Seas Med and MED WIND, to be developed in the western area of the Sicily Region, and gave the chance to hear from all the actors involved, with a focus on FOWT impact on fishing and navigation routes, as well as to investigate the social acceptance of the new technology through an on-site questionnaire.

📌 After our experts have presented several opportunities for both the co-existence with the other uses of the sea and for positive impacts on the economic activities and the community, local fishermen and shipowners showed a concrete interest in cooperating with public authorities and industrial stakeholders to favour the implementation of FOWT in the territory, recognising the MARINEWIND project as their elective channel to protect the fishery sector through specific recommendations at the EU level.
